Brood Antenatal Classes

What?

The Brood Antenatal Course is led by an experienced Midwife and designed to provide you with the knowledge and support you need as you prepare for the arrival of your baby. The course is divided into the following sessions:

Session 1: The Science of Birth.

Discover just how amazing your body truly is as you explore the remarkable changes that occur during late pregnancy, leading all the way to the moment of labour and birth, and culminating in the incredible experience of meeting your little one for the very first time. We also explore the various types of sensations that you may experience during labour and birth. By understanding these sensations, you can better prepare yourself mentally and physically for the challenges ahead. We provide you with techniques and strategies to support yourself throughout childbirth, giving you the tools to cope with the journey.

Session 2: Optimising Birth Workshop.

Join us for an informative session designed to help you learn and practice essential massage techniques, movement strategies, and optimal posture during labour. These skills are aimed at supporting your baby throughout the birthing process. Additionally, we will incorporate elements of aromatherapy and breathing exercises to enhance relaxation and focus. This session is specifically tailored to inform and prepare your birth partner, equipping them with the knowledge and skills they need to actively participate and offer you the best possible support during labour and birth. We will also explore various gentle methods to encourage labour and discuss effective techniques to help protect your perineum during this important time.

Session 3: Birth in the Modern World.

How to ask the right questions in order to get the most out of your maternity care experience is essential for expectant parents. Understanding the various birth settings available and what each one offers can significantly impact your journey. We also explore your options during labour and birth, including pain relief options, the distinctions between standard care versus additional support and the different ways to give birth that may be available. Additionally, we provide you with guidance on how to articulate your birth preferences, along with useful tools to aid decision making throughout pregnancy and in the labour room.

Session 4: Feeding your baby.

All the various options available, along with comprehensive information, will assist you in making the best decision for you and your family. You will find practical help and insightful advice, all aimed at giving you the best chance of success with whichever path you ultimately choose to take.

Session 5: Life with your baby.

Understanding baby sleep patterns, nappy care techniques, newborn bathing essentials, and skin care practices is vital for new parents. This includes hands-on practice with various tools such as slings, baby carriers, swaddles, baby baths, and different types of nappies. Additionally, we offer support in writing postnatal plans tailored to prepare you effectively for your new life with your baby, ensuring a smoother transition into parenthood.

The Brood Antenatal Course includes an antenatal workbook that accompanies the information and ongoing contact and support from your educator.

Why?

    Gail and Dan

  • “I really believe our course helped me remain calm and focused during labour.”

    Emily & Eamon

  • “It was really informative to learn about... what interventions would be offered and why and how to ask questions to feel in control of what was going on.”

    Emlyn and Dan

  • "There was loads of information and tips for us birth partners and I came away feeling so confident to help Amy during her birth and don't mind saying that I absolutely smashed it as her birth partner. I don't think I'd have been half as good without The Brood Club Course."
